The Lot
Survey

We are building The Lot — a peer-to-peer marketplace inside LOT57Collect where you can buy, sell, and trade diecast cars directly with other members. No middleman. Just collectors dealing with collectors.

Your input shapes how we build it.

Why we are asking about commission rates:
Running The Lot costs real money. We want to be 100% transparent:
  • Stripe processing — 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction (this is unavoidable)
  • Buyer protection — funds held until delivery confirmed
  • 1099 tax reporting — required for sellers earning $600+/year
  • Security — fraud detection, identity verification, payouts
  • Platform upkeep — servers, support, new features
The commission LOT57Collect charges has to cover Stripe fees PLUS keep the lights on. We break it all down below so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Interest & Willingness
Q1. Would you be interested in selling diecast cars on The Lot?
Q2. If you could sell, how many cars would you list in the first month?
Q3. Would you buy diecast cars from other members on The Lot?
Q4. Where do you currently sell diecast? (Select all)
Commission Rate
The Lot is NOT eBay. Here is why.
On eBay, anyone with an email can buy your stuff and file a chargeback. On Facebook, you have zero protection. On Whatnot, sellers cheat shipping weight and buyers ghost.

The Lot is built different. This is a vetted, invite-only marketplace founded by LOT57Collect VIP members — people who actually collect, actually care, and actually show up. Here is what your commission funds:
  • Buyer vetting system — not everyone gets to buy on The Lot. We verify buyers before they can purchase from you. No randoms. No burner accounts. No chargebacks from strangers.
  • VIP seller priority — as a founding VIP seller, your listings get featured placement and a verified badge. You built this community. Everyone will know it.
  • Full buyer protection with real dispute resolution — not a bot. Not a form. An actual review process backed by the community.
  • Chargeback defense fund — if a buyer tries to pull a chargeback, we fight it on your behalf using transaction records, tracking data, and delivery confirmation. You are not on your own.
  • Seller reputation that actually means something — your rating follows you inside a community that knows you. Not a faceless 5-star system on a platform with millions of strangers.
  • Shipping fraud prevention — weight verification and label tracking so nobody games the system. If a package is underweight, it comes out of the seller's payout. Clean and fair.
Bottom line: you are not paying a fee to list on some random app. You are investing in a platform built BY collectors FOR collectors — and you are one of the founders.
Full transparency — here is how the money works:
Stripe charges us 2.9% + $0.30 on every sale made on The Lot. That fee comes out of the commission we collect — NOT out of your pocket separately. So if the commission does not cover the Stripe fee, we lose money on your sale and cannot fund any of the protections listed above.

Example on a $25 sale: Stripe takes $1.03. If our commission is only 5% ($1.25), we keep just $0.22. That does not even cover a single support ticket — let alone chargeback defense, buyer vetting, or new features.
Q5. What commission rate feels fair? (Read the breakdown below each option)
RateOn $25 SaleYou GetWe Keep (after Stripe)
5%$1.25 fee$23.75$0.22
8%$2.00 fee$23.00$0.97
10%$2.50 fee$22.50$1.47
12%$3.00 fee$22.00$1.97
15%$3.75 fee$21.25$2.72

For reference: eBay ~13.25% + $0.30 | Mercari 10% | Whatnot 9.5% + $0.30 | FB Marketplace 0% (no protection at all)

PRO Lowest possible fee — you keep $23.75 on a $25 sale
CON We LOSE money on every sale under $11. On $25, we keep $0.22 after Stripe.
CON No budget for buyer vetting, chargeback defense, or dispute resolution
CON No verified badges, no featured listings, no seller protections
CON The Lot would basically be Facebook Marketplace with extra steps — no safer than what you have now
PRO Cheaper than every major competitor
PRO You keep $23.00 on a $25 sale
CON Barely breaks even. We keep $0.97 per $25 sale after Stripe.
CON Basic buyer protection only — no chargeback defense fund
CON Cannot fund buyer vetting system or fraud prevention
CON No room for VIP seller perks or promotions
PRO Matches Mercari, still cheaper than eBay
PRO You keep $22.50 on a $25 sale
PRO Basic buyer protection and support
CON Tight margins — limited chargeback defense budget
CON Buyer vetting would be minimal (basic checks, not full verification)
CON Slower feature development — auctions, bundles, alerts all take longer
PRO Full buyer vetting system — every buyer is verified before they can purchase. No randoms, no scammers, no burner accounts
PRO Chargeback defense fund — if someone tries to dispute a legit transaction, we fight it for you with Stripe using tracking + delivery proof
PRO VIP founding seller badge — you helped build this. Your profile shows it. Your listings get priority placement
PRO Full buyer protection, real dispute resolution, and fraud prevention
PRO Seller promotions — reduced fees for top-rated sellers, new buyer discounts that drive traffic to YOUR listings
PRO Faster development of auctions, bundle deals, saved searches, and alerts
PRO Still cheaper than eBay (13.25%+) — and you are selling to verified collectors, not strangers
CON You keep $21.25–$22.00 on a $25 sale (vs $21.68 on eBay after their 13.25% + $0.30)
Think about it: On eBay you pay 13%+ to sell to strangers who can scam you with zero consequences. Here you pay a similar rate to sell inside a vetted community of real collectors who respect the hobby. That is not a fee — that is an investment in your peace of mind.

Q7. What types of cars would you list? (Select all)
Payout Preferences
Q8. How would you prefer to receive earnings? (Select all that apply)
Q9. How frequently would you want payouts?
How Stripe Express payouts work: Stripe sends payouts on a rolling basis. New sellers start with a 7-day rolling schedule (funds available 7 days after the sale). As your account builds history, this can speed up to 2-day rolling payouts. You do not have to request payouts manually — they happen automatically.
